The City of Apopka is celebrating its 27th year as a member of Tree City USA by giving away 1,000 tree saplings at the upcoming Apopka Art and Foliage Festival.
The free saplings, which measure four to six inches tall, include bottlebrush, crepe myrtle (purple, red and white), Winged Elm, Florida Maple and two types of oaks – Shumard and Cathedral. Stop by the City of Apopka Recreation Department booth to pick up your tree.
The 57th Annual Apopka Art and Foliage Festival will be April 28-29 at Apopka’s Kit Land Nelson Park. Approximately 100 entries of juried fine arts and creative handcrafts will fill the park. Artists from all areas will converge in Apopka to feature their paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculptures, and much more at the two day outdoor festival. Budding artists from local schools will also have the opportunity to display their works of art.
More than twenty local nurseries will be on site to help you select the perfect plants for your home and garden. You can also hop on one a bus to take a firsthand tour of working nurseries and see where Apopka's world famous foliage is grown.
Enjoy delicious food while being entertained by a variety of musicians. Children can spend time catching butterflies in a netted tent, get their faces painted and do a craft.
The festival is sponsored by the GFWC Apopka Woman's Club and the City of Apopka. Revenue from the event goes to about 22 local non-profit charities and provides scholarships for Apopka students.
Admission to the festival is FREE. No pets are allowed. For more information, call 407- 889-2628 or see www.apopkaartandfoliagefestival.org.
