Benefits Summary
Probationary Period
Probationary period for all employees shall be a minimum of one (1) year.
Increases
Employees receive annual evaluations. Merit increases are based on job performance as represented by evaluation score. Merit increases and COLA are reviewed annually in budget and set by City Council.
PTO (Paid Time Off)
PTO is accrued on a monthly basis at the following rates, based on years of service:

General employees may accumulate leave up to a maximum of two times their current annual accrual hours and twenty-four hour employees may accumulate up to a maximum of one times their current annual accrual hours as of January 1st of each year. Accrued PTO is eligible for pay-out at the time of separation if qualifying criteria are met.
Holidays
Employees receive eleven (11) paid holidays per year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Floating Holiday (employee vote/council approval), Personal Holiday.

Defined Benefit Retirement Plans for Police, Fire, and General Employees.
Employee Health and Wellness Center
A health and wellness center is provided for employees and their dependents who are covered under the City's health insurance policy. The center provides general medical care, prescription medications, lab work, x-ray's, wellness services, etc, at no out-of-pocket expense to eligible participants.
Life Insurance
A $30,000.00 Life Insurance policy with an additional $30,000.00 Accidental Death and Dismemberment policy is provided for each employee, paid 100% by the City. Employees are allowed the option to purchase additional coverage for themselves and their spouses or children.
Health Insurance
The City provides comprehensive group health insurance, including prescription coverage. The employee portion of the premium is paid 100% by the City. Coverage for dependent health is available at the employees expense.
Dental and Vision Insurance
Dental and vision insurance are available at the employees expense.
Deferred Compensation Retirement Savings
Deferred compensation retirement savings program available at the employee's option. Employee only contributions.
Employee Assistance Program
Full assistance program provided at no cost to the employee.
Section 125 Tax Shelter
Qualified insurance premium deductions are sheltered from Federal Income Taxes and FICA Taxes under the IRS Section 125 rule.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
FSA with debit card available for employee contributions.
Overtime Compensation
Overtime compensation is made according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. General employees work 40 hours per week, law enforcement personnel work a 28-day/171 hour work cycle and fire fighter personnel work a 28-day/212 hour work cycle.
Credit Union
Membership in local credit unions is available.
Electronic Transfers (Direct Deposit)
Direct deposit (up to 6 accounts) is available for all full-time and regular part-time employees.
Longevity Pay
$2.00 per month of service - maximum of $400.00 annually. Taxes and pension contributions paid by the City.
Increased Entry Level Salary
Based upon experience, education or other qualifications required for the position, Department Heads may offer an increased starting pay with the approval of the Mayor or his designee.
Career Development/Educational/Incentive Programs
Employees are allowed to attend schools (career development, etc.) as approved by their department head. Police standard educational and incentive programs. Fire standard educational programs.
Proficiency Pay
All fire fighters with paramedic certification receive a proficiency pay of $8000.00 a year.
The following police officers are eligible for $500.00 a year proficiency pay: crime prevention officers, field training officers, traffic homicide investigators, school resource officers, special investigative unit officers and detectives.
Plain Clothing Allowance (Police)
To be eligible for clothing allowance the employee must be permanently assigned to a position in which the wearing of plain clothing is required and authorized by the Chief of Police.
