Streets Division

The Public Services Streets Division maintains the City's roadways and rights-of-way to achieve their maximum design life and to ensure the continuation of efficient and safe transit on all City streets and sidewalks. This is accomplished through the use of street-sweepers, pothole repair, street re-surfacing, curbing, sidewalk installation and repair, and streetlight and traffic signal maintenance. The division also trims tree limbs and removes debris from the public rights-of-way. They maintain and improve the City's stormwater drains and systems to ensure that they perform to the their designed capacity.

Grounds Division

The City parks, street median landscaping and the public cemetery are maintained by the Grounds Division. The Grounds Division maintains over 350 acres of parks, athletic fields, city facilities, medians and roadsides. They assist community organizations in the preparation of community events such as the Apopka Art and Foliage Festival, the Christmas Parade and festivities. Grounds crews maintain the Northwest Recreation Complex and work closely with the Recreation Division to prepare for sports events and other community functions held at the park.

Cemetery Division

Working in conjunction with the Grounds Division, the Cemetery Division provides the maintenance and beautification of the Edgewood Cemetery along with marking, identifying and maintaining the sites within the cemetery. The maintenance consists of the cutting and trimming of grass areas, shrubs, trees and landscape material as well as the application of fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides that may be required.

Inmate Program

In February 1999, the City first established its agreement with the Florida Department of Corrections to provide inmate labor for the many projects throughout City. This program has been highly successful and has saved the City thousands of dollars in labor in addition to performing a variety of special projects. There are now three Inmate crews that perform maintenance work for the city.
