Station 1 is located in the downtown section of the city and is
primarily responsible for a mixed residential/commercial area containing many
aged buildings. In addition to housing the ten assigned firefighters each shift,
this station is also home to the fire adminstaration and the emergency
operations center including the 911 communications center for the Cities of
Apopka, Maitland, and Eatonville.
Engine 1 is
the newest pumper the department has purchased. It is a 2004 American
LaFrance Eagle Series pumper with a 1500 GPM Darley three stage high
pressure pump. It caries 1000' of 5" supply hose, 800' of 2 ½" hose,
four 1 Ύ" pre-connected attack lines, two 200' booster reels, 750
gallons of water and a 30 gallon foam tank and is equipped with
a global positioning and mapping laptop computer. This engine also carries
a thermal imager camera and complete set of Amkus vehicle
extrication equipment.
Ambulance 1 is a 2001 American LaFrance on a Ford F350
chassis.
Tower 1 is a
2003 American LaFrance Eagle Series LTI Tower Ladder with a reach of 95. It has
a 1500 GPM Hale pump and carries 500 of 5 supply hose, 800 of 2 1/2 hose and
has two 1 Ύ pre connected attack lines.
Tower 2 is now
a reserve unit. This truck is a 1974 85 Sutphen Aerial platform it was
refurbished in 1989 and was just recently replaced by the American LaFrance
pictured above.
Engine 11 is a
1989 Darley engine on a Spartan chassis. It has a 1500 GPM Darley three stage
high pressure pump.
Brush 1
is a 2001 Ford F350 with a Darley 250 GPM pump. It carries 300 gallons of water
with 200' of booster hose, 100' of 1 3/4" pre-connected attack hose, and a wide
array of brush/woods firefighting equipment.
Ambulance 12 is a 1996 National Ambulance on a Ford F350 chassis. This
is the third backup ambulance assigned to station 1. All Apopka ambulances are
State licensed advanced life support units and carry a wide array of life saving
equipment including a cardiac heart monitor, airway adjuncts, and a wide
selection of emergency medications. It is also equipped with a global
positioning and mapping laptop computer. It is staffed with a
paramedic/firefighter and an EMT/firefighter.
Rescue 1 is a 1995 Medic Master heavy rescue/ hazardous materials
unit on a Freightliner chassis. This truck responds to all structure fires, auto
accidents with entrapment, confined space rescues, hazardous materials incidents
and any other specialty incident. Rescue one carries a full compliment of
vehicle extrication equipment, haz mat entry suits and equipment, scuba
equipment, an air bottle cascade filling system, extra air bottles, and a 30
foot tall extendable light mass. It also serves as a mobile command post with
various computers and radio equipment capable of communicating with all Central
Florida fire departments. Rescue one is also equipped with global positioning
mapping capabilities.

responsible for the overall daily operations of his shift
including fireground command. |

Squad 1 is a 2003 Ford Excursion. This newly formed unit is
staffed with three firefighters at all times and is the NFPA required
rapid intervention team (RIT) at all fire scenes. Their primary responsibility
at a fire is the safety and rescue of any injured or downed firefighter.
When not a fire scene they assist other units with additional manpower at auto
accidents, EMS calls or hazardous materials incidents. This unit is also staffed
with state certified fire inspectors which assist the Citys fire inspector in
daily business inspections. |
