On behalf of the men and women of City of Apopka Police Department, welcome to our web page. The Apopka Police Department is an organization comprised of rich history and heritage. Founded as the Town of Apopka City in September of 1882 and holding its first elections at the Masonic Lodge on Main Street, Mr. T.A. Vick was appointed the Town’s Marshall. From that very humble beginning, public safety has and remains a priority with the City Council. Today, the Apopka Police Department is comprised of dedicated men and women who look to better the Apopka community. The department has 125 full-time equivalent (FTE’s) positions. The FTE’s consist of 91 sworn and 34 support positions eager to serve the citizens of the community.
This web site often serves as the first point of contact that a citizen may have with the City of Apopka and its various department. The City of Apopka is the second largest municipality within Orange County and continues to grow at a rapid rate. Realizing that many of the citizens within the community work outside of the local area, I believe that we have a duty to make information readily available when possible. Therefore, our records section is available after normal business hours to better serve the public into the evening hours (0700 to 1800 hours) Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). We are also simply a phone call away and are happy to serve you and your family.
The City is a leader in providing the best public safety technology for both the officer and citizens whom we serve. In 2008 the Apopka City Council authorized the upgrade and implementation of a new public safety radio system. As of the middle 2010 the City of Apopka is currently in the testing and acceptance stages for the radio system and by years end we hope to have full integration. Also, with the implementation of the WiFi system, and data radio system for mobile data purposes, we continue the provide the citizens with the most cost effective system on the market today. We also provide communications service to several jurisdictions in the Orange County area. These include the cities of Eatonville, Maitland and Ocoee who relay upon the Public Safety Communications services of the City of Apopka.
We also believe that knowledge provides individuals with a means of ensuring safety. You will find within our website a Sexual Offender/Predator database of those individuals whom reside in the municipal limits of the City of Apopka and those in the unincorporated area of the Joint Planning Area with Orange County. It is our objective to provide you with information as to the last time your police department came in contact with these individuals and photographs of the homes and vehicles being driven by offenders. Our first and foremost concern is keeping the children of our community safe. I also invite you to visit the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website, where a complete database for the entire state is maintained of offenders and predator that are throughout the state to ensure your safety as you travel.
As many of you are aware, the economy has put a great strain on state, county and local governments which have lead to reduced services, however, the City of Apopka City Council has remained committed to ensuring that the local community remains safe and has maintained the number of sworn officers, without cutting services. I want to express my gratitude to the citizens and our city council for their dedication and leadership to maintaining public safety as one of it priorities.
To those whom reside within the Apopka Community, I hope that this site assist you in obtaining the desired information and to those who are visiting from other areas of our nation and world, we hope that you enjoy your visit with us and welcome you to our community.
Respectfully,
/s/ Charles W. Vavrek Chief of Police |
