In the late
1980's, the city's growth expanded east to the Seminole County Line. Many
commercial buildings including apartment complexes, strip plazas, and large
residential neighborhoods sprang up. A new station was needed and land was
purchased on Piedmont Wekiva Road next to the Piedmont Lakes subdivision. Fire
station 3 was completed in December of 1988 and is the second busiest station in
the city.
Engine 3 is a 2003 American LaFrance Eagle Series
Pumper with a 1500 GPM Darley three stage high pressure pump. It caries 1000' of
5" supply hose, 800' of 2 ½" hose, four 1 ¾" pre-connected attack lines, two
200' booster reels, 750 gallons of water and a 30 gallon foam tank and is
equipped with a global positioning and mapping laptop computer. This engine also
carries a thermal imager camera and complete set of Amkus vehicle extrication
equipment.
Engine 31 is a 1980 Ford Darley 750 GPM pumper. It is now used
as a reserve unit. It carries 1000' of 5" supply hose, 500' of 2 ½" hose,
two 1 3/4" pre-connected attack lines and two 200' booster reels. It was
refurbished in 1998 and still makes an excellent unit for drafting due to the
location of the pump and intake. This truck is also used at some brush
fires for its "pump and roll" capability.
Ambulance 3 is a 2003 American LaFrance Medic Master ambulance on a
Ford F350 chassis. All Apopka ambulances are State licensed advanced life
support units and carry a wide array of life saving equipment including a
cardiac heart monitor, airway adjuncts, and a wide selection of emergency
medications. It is also equipped with a global positioning and mapping laptop
computer. It is staffed with a paramedic/firefighter and an
EMT/firefighter. Ambulance three is the second busiest ambulance in the
City.
Ambulance 31 is a 1997 National Ambulance on a Ford F350 chassis. A31
is the backup ambulance assigned to station 3. All Apopka ambulances
are State licensed advanced life support units and carry a wide array of life
saving equipment including a cardiac heart monitor, airway adjuncts, and a wide
selection of emergency medications. It is also equipped with a global
positioning and mapping laptop computer. It is staffed with a
paramedic/firefighter and an EMT/firefighter.
